IV thrombolysis is an emergency treatment used for selected patients with an acute ischemic stroke, where a blood clot blocks blood flow to part of the brain.
At Sarvodaya Hospital, our stroke care team provides rapid assessment and treatment during the golden hour period, i.e. within the first 60 minutes of the stroke.
The treatment aims to restore blood flow, limit brain injury, and improve the chances of functional recovery when given within the appropriate treatment window.
Thrombolysis may be recommended when an ischemic stroke is caused by a blood clot, and the patient meets specific eligibility criteria. Early treatment can help restore blood flow before prolonged interruption causes further brain damage. Our neurologists assess the patient's symptoms, medical history, imaging findings, and time of symptom onset before deciding on treatment.
Eligibility depends on factors such as the type of stroke, time since symptoms began or the patient was last known well, brain imaging results, bleeding risk, and overall medical condition. Not every stroke patient is suitable for thrombolysis, so urgent specialist evaluation is essential.
The patient first undergoes emergency assessment and brain imaging to determine whether the stroke is caused by a clot and to exclude bleeding. If eligible, the thrombolytic medicine is administered intravenously under close medical monitoring.
Sarvodaya Hospital provides emergency stroke care supported by advanced diagnostic and monitoring facilities required for rapid stroke evaluation.
Brain imaging helps distinguish ischemic stroke from bleeding, while continuous clinical monitoring supports treatment decisions and patient care.
Our multidisciplinary stroke team includes neurologists, emergency specialists, radiologists, critical care professionals, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists for coordinated management.
